Kariam Kattery and KAKATZ, operated by Karen and Al Walbrun, is located in the beautiful Hill Country of south central Texas (USA), just northwest of San Antonio. Although we love all cats, we raise Birmans, exclusively. We have two registered cattery names:
KARIAM KATTERY: Where we register our Traditional Point colors (Seal, Blue, Chocolate, Lilac)
K A KATZ: Where we register our Lynx Points (Tabby Points) in all colors, Red & Cream Points, and Cinnamon & Fawn Points,
and Tortie Points in all colors
Our kitties are registered in The International Cat Association (TICA), and some in Cat Fanciers Association (CFA).
We started with the Birman breed in late 1969 with a Seal Point beauty from Gertrude Griswold in Washington State. Gertrude helped establish the Birmans in the United States in the1960’s with her many beautiful Birmans from Europe. KARIAM Birmans were the first shown in Texas in CFA (Cat Fanciers Association) and ACFA (The American Cat Fanciers Association)
shows starting in 1970. After 3 short years, though, life lead us to a different path until 1991, when we returned to breeding the beautiful Sacred Cat of Burma. To this day we continue to be fascinated by this stunning, yet sweet natured breed!
Al is very honored to be an International Allbreed Judge in the TICA organization, judging worldwide. Karen is equally proud to be the TICA Birman Breed Chairperson for 2000-2009. The Chairperson, along with the elected Breed Committee, is responsible for taking care of the Birman Standard. Al and Karen can be found regularly at TICA shows in the South Central Region and, periodically, at shows around the globe. Check out the TICA Show Schedule at www.tica.org and click on Show Calendar or click this link TICA SHOW CALENDAR.
